Corns, calluses or rough feet
Ill-fitting shoes, going barefoot and spending a lot of time walking or standing can wreak havoc on our feet. While it’s not always practical to avoid these things, we can get our feet into good shape and keep them looking and feeling their best with some quick, corrective care and maintenance.
It is always important to remember that calluses protect the feet and should not be aggressively removed. Additionally, people suffering from diabetes or poor circulation should not use smoothing tools on their feet. It’s also been our experience that people tend to think their calluses are much worse than they actually are. We recommend beginning any foot-smoothing routine gently.
Choose a Foot Smoother
Corns & Thick Calluses - Corns and very hard, thick calluses can be reduced with a Corn Plane. This tool is designed to shave off thin layers of skin for quick, instant results. Thick calluses can also be smoothed without the use of a blade. Coarse tools like the Denco Easy Grip Heavy Duty Foot Smoother, the Evolution Foot Smoother, the Nickel File or the Callus Reducer are ideal for quickly and safely smoothing thick calluses and deeply cracked heels.
Moderate Calluses - For moderate calluses, choose a less abrasive tool such as the Professional Foot Smoother, Ceramic Smoother or the Metallic Smoother.
Light Calluses and Rough Skin - Light callusing and rough, dry skin can be banished with a standard Foot Smoother or Pumice Stone.
Corrective Care & Maintenance
Soaking feet in warm soapy water will soften the skin and make most corrective care easier. All our foot smoothers work best with water with the exception of the Heavy Duty Foot Smoother and the Nickel File, both of which can be used wet but are more effective when used dry.
We recommend taking your time with the initial smoothing, being careful not to overdo it. Dry your feet carefully and apply a moisturizing cream like our Denco Naturals Hydrating Foot Balm. Once your calluses have been reduced, you can keep your feet soft and smooth by giving them a daily, quick scrub in the shower with a Light Callus tool like our Foot Smoother or Pumice Stone. Always follow up with the Foot Balm. We also suggest using our Rejuvenating Foot Scrub weekly.
